Instagram brand collaboration guide
What to commission on Instagram, and how to brief it so it does not look like an ad nobody watches.

Pick the format from the job
Most effective Instagram collaborations combine two formats — one for reach, one for action.
- Reel — discovery and reach
- Story — clicks, via link stickers; disappears in 24 hours unless highlighted
- Carousel — explanation, comparison and saves
- Collab post — appears on both accounts and pools the engagement
The first two seconds
Reels are decided at the hook. Brief the creator to open on the problem or the payoff — never on a logo, never on 'hey guys, so today's video is sponsored by'.
Native audio, on-screen text and vertical framing are baseline requirements, not nice-to-haves.
Brief tightly, direct loosely
Specify the one message that must land, the non-negotiable claims and the call to action. Leave the execution to the creator — they know what their audience stops for.
Include reference content for tone. Never send a script to read verbatim.
Disclosure and boosting
Use Instagram's paid partnership label and a plain-language disclosure in the caption. If you want to run the content as an ad, agree it — and pay for it — before production.
Deliverables checklist
Write these into the agreement so nothing is assumed.
- Exact count and format of posts
- Publish date and minimum time live
- One agreed revision round
- Insight screenshots at 48 hours and 7 days
- Usage rights window if applicable
