How to become a UGC creator in India
UGC pays for production skill, not audience size — which makes it the fastest paid route for new creators.

What UGC work actually is
A UGC creator makes content for a brand to publish on the brand's own account and paid ads. You are being hired as a producer. Your follower count barely matters; your ability to shoot, speak and edit is the entire product.
Build a portfolio with no clients
The standard route in is spec work. Pick five products you already own, make one 20-second video for each as though you had been briefed, and that is your portfolio.
Vary the formats deliberately so a brand can see range: an unboxing, a problem-solution hook, a talking-head review, a before-and-after, and a silent b-roll cut.
What to charge
In India, a single UGC video commonly goes for ₹3,000–₹15,000 depending on complexity and production quality. Bundles of three to five videos are the normal sale.
Charge usage rights separately — around 25–50% of the production fee for six months of paid-ad use. This is the line item new creators most often forget, and it is frequently worth more than the video itself.
Keeping clients
UGC is a repeat business. Brands that find a reliable creator re-brief monthly rather than re-hiring. Deliver on time, name your files clearly, and send a raw cut alongside the edit — small professional habits win the second order.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need followers to be a UGC creator?
- No. Brands are buying the video file, not access to your audience, so many working UGC creators have small personal accounts.
- What gear do I need?
- A recent phone, natural light and a clip-on mic covers the vast majority of paid UGC work in India.
